Kgetleng Mayoral Sports Tournament

This tournament was brought to the community by the Office of the Hon. Mayor O.D. Medupe. It is held once a year to commemorate the month of the youth. The basic aim is to get the kids inspired to participate in sports to change their lifestyle and to motivate them to stay away from drug, alcohol and substance abuse.

On a very freezing 27 June the Onze Nuus had the opportunity to join the activities at the soccer stadium in Reagile. It was a great experience to be part of the activities. The excitement and the spirit of the spectatours were running very high as they witnessed the soccer players in action. The commentators were purring the audience on with comments to keep the excitement above the cold winter morning.

The event kicked of with a 5km Fun run that started at 07h00. After that the First semi soccer tournament started at 10:00 am with Koster Sundowns and Derby Touch Lets Go. After that Mushlendow Farm V/S Borolelo FC in Swartruggens kicked off their match.

Soccer Clinics were given to prospective little soccer players.   Well known guest professional soccer players were invited to attend this event and to give their best advice at the clinics.   Mohau Mokate, 24 year of age , born and breed in Koster who was raized and taught the necessary soccer skills in the streets of Reagile were a very big inspiration and a seeded/planted gesture of hope to residence of the community. So was Pogiso Sanoka, age 23, aslo from Maritzburg united, born in Sweirer Renecke.   Kabelo Sibiya from Orbit Fet. their coach joined them and were busy scouting for bettr players to train and to also be given the opportunity to go professional.


There were alo netball games that kicked of at 10:00 am.  Other teams thart participated were: Mazista V/S Baffaras; SNC V/S Dream Team and Moedwil V/S MRCA.

On interviewing the Hon, Mayor her wishes was not just to have this event for the day and then forget about it and move, She want it to be a ongoing drive to change the lifestyle and circumstances in the community.
